Digital Switchover and Freeview
The West TV region – when will you switch?
In this region, the TV signal is provided by 4 transmitter groups that will switch over to digital at different times. If you live in an area that overlaps with an adjacent TV region, you may be getting your service from a different transmitter that may switch at another time.

What does the switchover mean for me?
The digital switchover is the process of switching the traditional analogue TV signal over to a digital TV signal. The switchover is already taking place on a region-by-region basis across the UK between now and 2012. With Sky, you can enjoy a complete digital solution, allowing you to receive and record digital TV with a Sky+HD box, without having to re-tune, unlike some Freeview boxes. Already a Sky customer? Make sure your whole home is ready for the switchover - remember second TV sets, DVD recorders and VCRs may be affected.
Will I need to buy a new TV?
No. Virtually all TVs will work after the switchover - even old or black and white televisions - as long as you can connect it to a digital box like a Sky+HD box. If you’re buying a new TV, look for the ‘digital tick’ logo. This indicates that the equipment is designed to work after the digital switchover.
Will my video still work?
Your video recorder may be affected following the switchover, with some DVD and video recorders losing the ability to record one programme while you watch another. You can continue to record and store the programmes you want to watch with Sky+HD, enjoying a solution for digital TV and recorder in one.
Will I need to retune my TV?
With Sky, you won't need to retune your TV when switchover happens so you won't miss out on any of your favorite TV programmes, unlike some Freeview boxes.
Do I need a new aerial?
With Sky, there's no need to replace or upgrade your aerial. You will receive a digital quality picture and sound through your minidish. Some Freeview customers may need to upgrade their aerials after the switchover, which, if required, can cost up to £180.
How will the rest of my home be affected?
TVs, video and DVD recorders in your home need to go digital, not just your main TV. With Sky Multiroom you can enjoy Sky TV in a second room - meaning you can watch the football or your favorite drama upstairs, while the kids enjoy cartoons downstairs.
